Rockets not Pockets

In 2019 Boris Johnson promised Britain that the era of austerity was over. Less than a year later it is clear that he lied.

Boris being Boris, billions of pounds can still be squandered on vanity projects. His ‘space command’, derided by most people, shows that he loves an expensive gimmick.

The Tories being Tories, they have also feathered the nests of their friends, donors and cronies. Huge sums of money which should have been spent on providing PPE to keep NHS and care home workers safe has found its way into the pockets of people connected to the government.

However, public sector workers are to be forced to accept a pay freeze. This means a real terms pay cut, something which will only worsen when Britain leaves the European Union as it is clear that any deal that the Prime Minister will try to get will be inferior to the arrangements we already have. The police officers, civil servants, housing officers and prison officers, many of whom have been on the front line throughout the pandemic, are to be treated abysmally,
